For the inner heroine in all of us.
Welcome. I’m so glad you made it here and I would love to support you in your healing.
My name is Alison (Ally) Guida Smith. I am a California Board of Behavioral Sciences licensed psychotherapist, and an Expressive Arts Therapist (CA MFC # 48932). I have worked with adults and youth in the fields of psychotherapy, healing, and personal development both locally and internationally for over 18 years.
I blend my training in somatic psychology, mindfulness, dance therapy, expressive arts and counseling with current research to empower you with tools you need to heal. I believe in your ability to navigate your inner and outer worlds when you feel supported in a non-judgmental, compassionate and steady way. My hope is that we cultivate a trusting partnership to support your healing process.
I have successfully worked with or treated:
-sexual and developmental traumas
-anxiety and depression symptoms
-body image and eating disorder issues
-addictions rooted in trauma-trauma (including developmental and complex trauma) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder-ADHD and other childhood disorders including conduct disorders-relationship issues that affect multi-racial clients and cross-cultural families and communities
-issues specific to military service members and their spouses and children
-sexuality
-developmental life transitions
-psychosomatic symptoms (psychological symptoms connected to physical symptoms)
-creativity, self-esteem issues-spiritual and religious inquiries affecting relationships
I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies. I also have a Dance Therapy Graduate Degree from the University of Surrey in London. I started in this field about 15 years ago and have worked in psychiatric hospitals, nursing homes, non-profit organizations, elementary schools, a prison, for the U.S. Navy and in private practice. I have worked with people from ages 5 to 103 (yes, 103!) and enjoy guiding others on their healing journeys.
I have been committed to working with families, children, couples and individuals for many years after healing my own traumas and eating disorder.
I enjoy singing, dancing, photography, writing, and international travel. I have traveled to over 50 countries and lived in many, including Spain, Italy, England, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Mexico. I speak Spanish fluently. I spend part of my summers working in Asia with youth and women with my non profit HAPPI, Healing Arts Peace Projects International (www.healingartspeaceprojects.org). I am a married mother to two children. Being in my nearly mid-40s now, I am learning to balance work, play and family life.
I am absolutely passionate about healing the whole person and work with mind, body and spirit to engage your own inner resources to heal. I consider myself a humble guide on our journey and mindfully intend to be both compassionate and authentic in my relating.
